Tara Williams

Tara Williams is a professional musician and a qualified and accredited Teacher of Singing, Piano and Music Theory with over thirty years' experience teaching Music in both classroom and private studio. She is dedicated to sharing her love of music and her passion for performance with others through fun, affordable and quality tuition and dynamic, inspired performances.

 

Originally from Sydney, Tara Williams holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Creative Arts in Music from the University of Newcastle Conservatorium. Whilst completing these degrees she studied Singing with Maree Ryan, Neil Easton, John Germain and Jennifer Barnes, and was a finalist in the Opera and Arts Support Groups' Scholarships competition in the City of Sydney Eisteddfod.

 

Tara has extensive performance experience in opera, music theatre, cabaret and concert recitals. She has performed with the Sydney Philharmonia Motet Choir, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Queensland, and has broadcast for Radio 2MBS-FM and SBS Radio.

Notable performances include Nigel Butterley's opera Lawrence Hargreaves Flying Alone with the Sydney Philharmonia Motet Choir, the world premiere of Katrina Pring's opera Daphne (as Aphrodite), commissioned for the Newcastle Conservatorium's Fiftieth Anniversary, and the Legends of Opera concert series with Joan Carden. Tara performed on the soundtrack to the film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. She has toured nationally with the Sydney Latvian Theatre Company's production Cabaret de Riga, and in 2019 year she performed her own one-woman cabaret show titled Songs My Students Taught Me as part of the Murwillumbah Arts Trail.

Tara has conducted the Australian Girls' Choir, the City of Sydney Singers and the Beethoven Society of Australia. She has tutored in Voice at the University of Western Sydney as well as teaching at a number of Sydney schools. Tara's students have been awarded Music scholarships at various Sydney private schools as well as being accepted into such selective organizations as the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Sydney Children's Choir, Gondwana Voices, Opera Australia and the casts of Leader of the Pack and Billy Elliot, The Musical. Many of her students have gone on to study Music at a tertiary level.

Tara has served on the committee of the Inner West Eisteddfod in Sydney and was Convenor of the Piano Section from 2002 – 2008. She was Adjudicator of the Vocal Section in the City of Wollongong Eisteddfod in 2013 and was a judge of the annual Tweed Battle of the Bands competition in 2016 and 2017. In 2019 she was Musical Director of Grease for Starlettes Youth Theatre Company.

 

Since relocating to the Tweed in 2012 Tara has been an active supporter of the local arts community and is in demand as a performer, teacher and adjudicator. She is also a busy mother of two young daughters.
